VFC won't detect the thumb drive / flash drive

Potential Symptoms

  • VFC won't detect the thumbdrive
  • The version info of the VIP shows up in VERSION INFO under DIAGNOSTICS menu

Environment

  • VFC
  • USB thumbdrive / thumb drive / flashdrive / flash drive

Cause

  • The VFC will not detect any files located within folders
  • Everything in the thumb drive needs to be in the top level folder
  • The flash drive has to be formatted for FAT32
    • Using typical formatting tools the partition / usb size has to be 32 Gb or less to have FAT32 as an option

Resolution

  • Move all files out of the folder to the top level
    • EX: USB Drive (D:)
