One or more digit segments/indicators are blank or dim: bad harness

Potential Symptoms

  • One or more horizontal or vertical segments are completely out but segment does light if connected to another harness or driver output.
  • One or more indicators are dim or not lighting.

Environment

  • Product Family: Sports Product
  • Product: LED scoreboard
  • Component: Digit Harness or Break Out Harness
  • Control System:

Cause

  • Issue with the digit harness/break-out harness.

Resolution

  • Replace harness or repair in field if possible.

For Temporary Operation

  • Sometimes the 2 or 3 pin prongs inside the harness that signal a particular segment to turn on/engage will not be making good contact with the mating cylinder/jack it plugs into.  This can be resolved by:
    1. Powering down the scoreboard.
    2. Using a small flathead screwdriver to spread the pins apart.
    3. Reseating harness into the mating jack.
