The start times for games in the Sports Wire 4000 Interface are off by one hour, incorrect time zone and DST

Potential Symptoms

  • The start times for scheduled out-of-town games in the Sports Wire 4000 InterfaceSM are off by one hour.
  • The application is receiving up-to-date scores from the internet and sending them out across the assigned port, but the game start times are not appearing correctly.
  • Out of Town scores are displaying in wrong time zone.

Environment

  • Sports Wire 4000 InterfaceSM

Cause

  • The Time Zone and Daylight Saving settings on the Sports Wire 4000 computer have not been configured for the current location. When computers are shipped from the Daktronics corporate office to a different time zone, these settings should be checked.

Resolution

  • Windows XP
    1. Double-click the date/time in the system tray.
    2. Click the Time Zone tab.
    3. Select the correct time zone.
    4. Enable or disable the Automatically adjust clock for daylight saving changes setting as needed.
    5. Click Apply.
  • Windows 7
    1. Single-click the date/time in the system tray.
    2. Click Change date and time settings...
    3. Click Change time zone...
    4. Select the correct time zone.
    5. Enable or disable the Automatically adjust clock for daylight saving changes setting as needed.
    6. Click OK
    7. Click OK
  • Windows 10
    1. Right-click the time/date in the system tray, select Adjust date/time.
    2. Select the correct time zone.
    3. Enable or disable the Automatically adjust clock for daylight saving time automatically setting as needed.
    4. Close the Setting window when finished.

Note: Occasionally, though the Time Zone settings may be set correctly, the start times may still be off due to Daylight Saving time. In this case, users must change the computer's settings to a different Time Zone altogether so that the start times get shifted to the appropriate hour.  More often then not, this requires shifting the time and the time zone ahead one hour.

Note:  Due to the Daylight Savings time Date Change in 2005, the time settings for the Sports Wire computer may need to be altered to account for the change.  Unchecking the Daylight Savings time option will correct the time until the Original Daylight savings time Date arrives, at that point the Check box will need to be reapplied.  Another option is to perform the same process by changing the Time Zone for the computer.  Some programs will react better or worse to one of the above methods.

IMPORTANT: When making any changes to the time on the computer, you MUST delete the current schedule (MLB, CFOOT, etc.) from the STATS driver in the Sports Wire software.  This can be accomplished by clicking into the Driver Configuration and selecting the Schedule tab (select games needing removal and click Delete).  Once it is deleted and the time and time zone are set to the correct offset, reference KB 000001585 to contact Stats Perform.  Just changing the time will not affect the currently downloaded schedule.  At the same time, having Stats Perform resend the schedule without deleting the current schedule will not overwrite the schedule with new times.
