Environment

  • Product Family: Software
  • Product: Galaxy, GalaxyPro
  • Component: Windows 7 & 8
  • Control System: Venus 1500 V4

Cause

  • Localhost has an incorrect, or no IP set to it. Localhost should be 127.0.0.1 or ::1.
  • A reply from ::1 would be normal on Windows Vista and newer since Windows uses IPv6 when pinging the local host.
  • We should still test the local host and verify the IP addresses assigned.

Resolution

To test localhost follow steps below:
  1. Click Windows Start Menu:
    • Windows XP - Click Run, type CMD and click Ok.
    • Windows Vista or 7 - Type CMD in Search program and file, right-click CMD and choose Run as Administrator.
  2. Hit Enter key.
  3. Type the following: ping localhost.
  4. Hit Enter key.

Note: Above picture shows a Localhost that may cause problems for Venus. If issue with localhost please follow below steps:

  1. Only change if you know what to look for/have IT's permission to change.
    • This will need to be done in the case that an IT group has changed the IP addresses of the local host.
  2. Host file can be located at (C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc).
  3. Open the Host file in Notepad.  Make sure the Local Host below the #'s has 127.0.0.1 set before it. Then save.
  4. Test by pinging local host again.
