  • In today's world of wireless, finding an acceptable frequency to use may take more than just using the "Clear Scan" feature built into most wireless microphones. You must check with the FCC database to identify approved Wireless Microphone frequencies for the area it is installed.  Anytime the microphone receiver is experiencing signal when the transmitter is turned off and the receiver is turned on you need to find a better frequency.  Many new devices only transmit occasionally, so "Clear Scan" will not see them.

Note: Shure wireless receiver channel frequencies do not correspond directly TV channels frequencies)

Example:

  • Location: San Marcos, TX (zip code 78666) 
  • Equipment: ULXP series G3 Band receivers/mics (Frequency range of 470—506 MHz)
  • TV Channels Available:  15 (476.0-482.0 MHz), and 17 (488.0-494.0 MHz) - not be used be any major TV broadcast towers
  •  Closest TV Broadcast Tower: May be good to take into account the closest TV broadcast tower and channel in use: for this site it is TV channel 14 KNTA-LP (14 miles away) - uses 470 - 476 MHz
  • Based on this info some channels to try using for a body pack and wireless mic would be the following
    • Group 4, ch. 14 (492.35 MHz)   &   15 (493.65 MHz)
    • Group 4, ch.   7 (476.62 MHz)   &     8 (478.7 MHz)
    • Group 4, ch. 23 (504.97 MHz)   &   24 (505.47 MHz)
  • It can be seen Shure ULXP G3  group 4, ch. 15 (493.65 MHz)  corresponds to the upper part of TV channel 17's bandwidth (TV channel 17 has a frequency range for 488 - 494 MHz).
