All Sport: How do I measure the wired current loop voltage output of a console?

Potential Symptoms

  • measure current loop signal voltage on a 1/4 phone plug
  • measure the wired current loop voltage output of an All Sport console

Environment

  • Product:
  • Component:
  • Control System: All Sport console

Resolution

  1. Ensure the All Sport console is turned on, but DO NOT enter a code or resume game in order to provide a steady state voltage.
  2. Measure DC current loop signal voltage, tip is (+) and the ring is (-).
  1. With a volt meter, put the Red positive probe/lead on the tip of the stereo phono 1/4" plug, and the Black negative probe/lead on the middle ring between the two little spacers on the stereo phono 1/4" plug.
  2. All Sport's output voltage should be greater than or equal to that listed below:
    • 8 Volts DC for non-addressable scoreboards, and 10-14 Volts DC for addressable scoreboards.  This is for All Sport 1600, 3000, 4000, 5000, 5500 consoles.
    • 5 Volts DC for All Sport 2000 series consoles.
    • NOTE:  The signal voltages listed above DO NOT guarantee the console output is good. They are intended to be used as a guideline.

Note:  If a bad phono cable suspected, continuity tests or resistance measurements can be done across the two tips and two rings to verify if the cable is bad.
