How do I start, restart, or stop the V4 or SCS supporting computer services?

  • How do I manually start, restart or stop the SQL Server (NUCLEUS), Daktronics Fusion and Daktronics Nucleus Server services?

Environment

  •  Product: Daktronics Fusion, Daktronics Nucleus, SQL Server (Nucleus), SCS/Show Control System (Display Studio)
  • Component: Windows Services
  • Control System: Venus 1500 V4, Vanguard V4 Software

Steps

You may receive random Nucleus Server failed to load, or failed to start errors when launching Venus 1500 v4, Show Control Systems or Vanguard. The most common resolution to these start up errors is starting, restarting or stopping and then starting the services.

Windows XP

  1. Go to Windows Start Menu -> Run -> Type services.msc, click Ok (alternatively, bring up the run box by pressing the Windows key  and "R" key at the same time).
    • If run is not an option, right-click on My Computer, choose Manage
    • Go to Services & Applications -> Services.
  2. Locate the following services in the following order:
    1. SQL Server (NUCLEUS)
    2. Daktronics Fusion (Venus 1500 v4.18 and greater only)
    3. Daktronics Nucleus Server
  3. Right-click and choose Start/Restart or Stop on each service listed in order.
  4. Try launching Venus 1500 v4, Show Control Systems or Vanguard.
    • Please make sure both services are set to Automatic for Start up type.

Windows Vista, 7, 10

  1. Go to Windows Start Menu.
  2. In the bottom search bar type: Services
    • Services will filter into the Windows Start Menu.
  3. Click on Services with the gears in front.
  4. Locate the following services in the following order:
    1. SQL Server (NUCLEUS).
    2. Daktronics Fusion (Venus 1500 v4.18 and greater only)
    3. Daktronics Nucleus Server
  5. Right-click and choose Start/Restart or Stop on each service listed in order.
  6. Try launching Venus 1500 v4, Show Control Systems or Vanguard.
    • Please make sure both services are set to Automatic for Start up type.

Windows 8 (No classic Windows Start Menu)

  1. Hover mouse on the right side of the desktop, click on the Magnifying Glass icon.
  2. Type services.msc in the search box and hit [enter].
  3. Locate the following services in the following order:
    1. SQL Server (NUCLEUS).
    2. Daktronics Fusion (Venus 1500 v4.18 and greater only)
    3. Daktronics Nucleus Server
  4. Right-click and choose Start/Restart or Stop on each service listed in order.
  5. Try launching Venus 1500 v4, Show Control Systems or Vanguard.
    • Please make sure both services are set to Automatic for Start up type.

Note:  If you do not have privileges to start/stop services, try simply rebooting the computer.  If a reboot does not solve the issue, then it is likely that administrator privileges will be required for a resolution.
