Data opens a link to a data feed from an internet source.  Acceptable data feeds include time, temperature, RSS, Atom, or XML feeds.  Information from the data feed is shown on any designated display(s).

Scheduled RSS Data Package:
To add a syndicated data feed information source:

  1. Click the Data icon from the main menu.  The Data Packages window opens.
  2. Click Add New.  Add Data Source opens.
  3. Choose Scheduled RSS Data Package from the Source Type drop-down list.
  4. Type the title of the data feed in the Title text box.
  5. Type or paste the data feed URL address in the Feed URL text box.
  6. Click Save.  Data Packages now lists the new data package.
  7. By default, the data feed is On and configured for all displays in the system.

To adjust the data feed default configuration:

  1. Click Data from the Main Menu.  Data Packages opens.
  2. Click a saved data package to open the Configuration window.
  3. Set the data feed state as On of Off.
  4. Rename the title of the data package if needed.
  5. Click the Copy icon to copy the Feed URL for testing the link.
  6. Set the Download Update Interval, which determines how often Venus Control Suite pulls data.  Intervals can range from 5 minutes to 24 hours.
  7. Set the Download Limit, which determines how many feeds to download from the data source (maximum of four items).
  8. Select the Filter Text box to filter the incoming data feed for inappropriate words.
  9. Click Save to save any changes to the data packages configuration of Cancel to exit without saving.

Adding a Dynamic Date Field Element:
To add a dynamic date field element to a slide:

  1. Go to Media in the Main Menu.
  2. Click on the arrow to the right of the Upload button and choose New Web Presentation.
  3. Give your new presentation a name and choose the correct display size.  Click Continue.
  4. Click Add Dynamic Date Field at the top of the screen.
    1. Click Set Data Field from the Content panel if content has been already added to the presentation.
    2. Choose a Source in the Select Data Source menu.
    3. Choose a Field type (Item Title, Summary, Image).
    4. Enter the specific row in the Row field to display in the presentation.  The number of items set in the data package sets the number of allowable feeds in the presentation.  The row number equates to the position of the feed from the data provider.
    5. Click Set.
  5. Configure the data field via the panels under Properties, modifying the properties (font options) in the same manner as a text box.  Click the Set Data Field button to change the source and field as well.
  6. Adjust the data field as needed.  Move or resize the data field by dragging with the mouse, or set the field using the options under Properties.
  7. When finished, click Save and schedule your data presentation to play by following How do I create a playlist in Venus Control Suite?, DD2735416.

Adding a Time / Temp Element:
Time and temperate data fields pull data directly from the display.  The time field is according to the display clock and time zone settings.  The temperature field will only pull data from the display if it has a temperature sensor installed.

Scheduled Atom or XML Data Packages:
Data feeds can also be set up in the Venus Control Suite version of Content Studio.  Using Content Studio to set up data packages may be necessary if you are not using an RSS feed.
