NovaStar: How do I save and load configuration files of a sender box or receiver card?

Daktronics Back up Configuration Files

  1. After the installation is complete and the display is operational, installers are advised to save a copy of the Receiving Card Config file (.rcfgx) and the Sending Box Config file (.scfg) for future troubleshooting.
  2. The file should be saved on the computer being used onsite to access the NovaLCT software.
  3. If a Onsite Display Calibration has been done, a back up file must be created as well for future support.
  4. If the display was installed and commissioned by Daktronics, or if Daktronics provided an Installation Supervisor, these files should be saved and sent back to the Commissioning Group following our standard Commissioning process. This helps us reference the correct file in our SharePoint sites for future troubleshooting or Help Desk remote support.
  5. If changes are made in the field after a display has been calibrated, create backups and send to Commissioning@daktronics.com.
  6. Existing controlsystemconfiguration files can be found via contract #'s. An example is : C27724_ZPN1.2__1059Nits_NLCT5p2.  This means 5.2.X supports this config file.

Environment

  • Product: Nova MCTRL 600, Nova MCTRL 660, NovaStar VX4S, PBOX 100, NovaStar brand sender box and receiver cards
  • Components: NovaLCT-Mars
  • Control System: Market Standard, NPP Control using transmit common/open protocol
    • This includes but not limited to DVX-2200, DVN-4003, J Series, U Series, Q Series, JVX, QVN-1000, and ZPN.

    Steps

There are three types of configuration files needed for setup: the receiver card configuration file, the LED display configuration file and the system configuration file.

System configuration file - system restore file

Extension: Sending Box Config file (.scfg)
The system configuration file is the complete setting information of a LED display control system. It can be used to quickly recover a LED display control system from error, or to quickly start a LED display. The system config can be pulled from a sender box once it is all configured and then used to restore a new replacement sender box if the need arises.  This file will include the screen config and receiver card files as well, so it would be specific to the sender box and display it was pulled from.

    Load system configuration file

    1. Log in- How do I log into the NovaStar NovaLCT-Mars Sender Box?
    2. Go to Users tab/Advanced User Login (password: admin or 666).
    3. Click on the Screen Config icon.
    4. Choose the corresponding COM port, config screen and click next.
    5. Select Load Config File option, use Browse button to select the system configuration file to be loaded and then click Next.
The selected configuration file will be automatically loaded to the LED display system. The LED display system will have been configured when the load operation is finished.  For more details, see: How do I replace a NovaStar Sender Box?

    Note:

    • Save to File- is used to save screen information files as screen information file (*.scr).
    • Send to HW- This is used to send the LED display configuration settings to the connected sending board.
    • Save-This is used to save the settings to a FLASH chip. The saved data won't be lost even the hardware is powered off

    Save the system configuration file

    1. Click on the Sending Card/Sending board Tab.

    2. To save settings to a system configuration file, click the Save Config File button at the bottom of the Screen Config window and follow the instructions.

Receiver card configuration file - master file

    Extension: .rcfgx
Saved in a receiver card configuration file are the settings of receiver cards. Receiver card configuration files can be used for quick configuration of cabinets requiring the same kind of settings.

The receiver card configs that are saved on the control systems site (typically by Dak SH) are what we consider the “master file”.  This is the configuration that each panel leaves the factory with.  There is typically a unique file for each panel type on each contract.

How to load receiver card configurations with Nova LCT
**Note: for those displays that have brightness difference between cabinets or send configuration file into a new receiver card, please in NovaLCT – Screen Configuration – Receiver Card, use Load from File and Send to Receiver Card.

LED display configuration file - local screen configuration

    Extension:.src
The LED display configuration file is the information of how receiver cards are put together to construct a LED display. The LED display configuration files can be used for quick construction of a LED display.  This is configured, backed up, via the NovaLCT Software/Screen Connection Tab.

This file does not exist at time of install.  Install personnel will create this in the NovaLCT based on the display riser that shows the signal paths.  They then send it to the connected display panels, save it to the hardware, and then download it to a file on the control PC.  From there it can be loaded on the backup sender box and kept on hand if the sender box fails and needs replacement.

    1. Click on the Screen Connections tab.
    2. Click the Save to File button to save a copy of the screen layout file to the local PC.
