Topic

  • How can I play a DVD out of my Standard Video rack?
  • There is not a DVD player included in my system.  How can I play out a DVD?

    Environment

    • Product Family: Software and Controllers
    • Product: DMP-8000, Show Control
    • Components: DVD Player
    • Control System: 1 Input Standard Video System

    Steps

    • A 4-input standard video rack comes with a DVD player installed in the rack.  Use the DVD player like normal.
    • A 1-input Standard Video rack does NOT come with a DVD player installed in the rack.  See picture below.  If your rack does NOT have a DVD player installed in the rack, proceed to the following steps for plugging in your own DVD player.
    1. Plug an external DVD player into the video input on the front of the rack.  Check what connections the back of the DVD player require and use the options below as a guide on what to plug in.  Daktronics recommends using composite video.  Use a BNC to RCA connector to plug the cable into the front of the rack.
      • To take Composite out: Plug in a yellow video cable from the DVD player to the video input on the front of the rack.
      • To take Component out: Plug in the red, blue, green video cables from the DVD player to the video input on the front of the rack.

    2. Make sure your analog to SDI converter switch (ADC#1) is set to the correct input switch.
      • If using Composite video make sure the converter is set to composite. (Switch #5 On, the rest off)
      • If using Component, make sure the converter is set to component. (All switches set to off)
      • If using S-Video, make sure the converter is set to S-Video. (Switch #4 and #5 are On, the rest off)

    3. Hit the Full Screen Video button found in Display Studio.  You should see your DVD playing out to your display.  If no Full Screen Video button is present, proceed to step 4 to create one.

    4. In Display Studio, create a new button to play out the file input_SDI.vmpl.
      1. Right click in a scripting container and select New Button.

      2. To start a line of script, select the + icon in the bottom left of the newly created button.
      3. In Step 1, choose 8000 Player Control.
      4. In Step 2 choose the zone where you want the DVD to play. (This is either the input zone or scaled video zone)
      5. In Step 3 choose Play
      6. In Step 4 click Add.  Navigate to input_SDI.vmpl
      7. In Step 5 click continuous.
      8. Click Save.
    5. Play out your new button and you should see the DVD play on the display.

    Troubleshooting

    1. If you do not see the DVD playing on the display, check the following settings.
      •  Check to see what type of cables you are using, and make sure the analog to SDI converter switch (ADC #1) is set to the correct format.
