Ethernet Bridge Radios: Two sets of (EBR) Dropping Communication Periodically; Radios too close to each other

Potential Symptoms

  • Can't communicate with the display.
  • Venus 1500 can connect at some times, but not at others.
  • Display shows time out error.
  • When trying to ping the display's IP address may receive "Destination Host Unreachable" or may receive responses if packet size is small.
  • When checking diagnostic LED inside server radio, PWR is Lit, ETH Link LED is Lit, but signal quality has few LEDs lit (poor signal quality).
  • May experience intermittent communication but with many dropouts and RSSI values of the radios at the end of operating range(-68 dBm to -99 dBm).
  • Intermittent packet loss with direct connection to the Power over Ethernet Injector (POE).

Environment

  • Product: Galaxy: AF-3200, AF-3220, AF-3400, AF-3500, AF-3550, GC6, GS6, GalaxyPro: AF-3700, GPR (Revolution), GP3, GP4, GPC
  • Component: Ethernet Bridge Radios
  • Control System:

Cause

  • Server or Client radios are mounted too close to each other. (A minimum of 20ft is needed between any other radio on site.)

Resolution

  • Mount radios according to Daktronics installation guidelines. Wireless Ethernet Communication Installation, DD1417586.
    • Make sure Server radios are 20ft apart.
    • Make sure Client radios are 20ft apart.
  • Or install an Adams switch com box application, using only one set of radios.

For Temporary Operation

  • Set the radios to a static channel. (Example: One set of radios could be set to channel 1, and the other set of radios could be set to channel 12.)
  • Contact Daktronics Technical Support for assistance.
