How to disable outbound SSH and telnet traffic on a Sierra Wireless modem

  • How do I disable or block outbound SSH and telnet services on a Sierra Wireless Modem?

Environment

  • Sierra Wireless AirLink modems or gateways
    • Raven XE/XT, LS300, GX400, GX440, GX450, ES450, RV50, MP70

Steps

  1. Connect to the modem's web configuration page and log in.
    • For assistance in accessing the modem's configuration page, please refer to the user manual.  An example of the manual for the GX440 can be found here.
  2. Select the Security tab.
  3. Select Port Filtering - Outbound.
  4. In the drop-down, select Blocked Ports.
  5. If there is a check-box for Outbound Port Filtering Mode, check it.
  6. Click Add More.
  7. In the Start Port, type 22, in the End Port, type 23.
  8. Click Apply.
  9. Click OK on the popup.
  10. Click the Reboot button on the upper right of the window to apply the change.
