Tricaster: How do I configure inputs and outputs for a Daktronics System

Topic

  • What is the best practice for configuring inputs and outputs for TriCaster 460/860 or TC-1?

Environment

  • Product: TriCaster
  • Component:
  • Control System:

Steps

Setting Up the Video Inputs

  • This process is needed when you plug in an external source (Ex:  Camera, DVD Player, Deck) into the TriCaster computer.
  • When setting up the video inputs on a TriCaster computer this procedure assumes that you will be using SD video inputs.  Daktronics also recommends using the "3 input setup" under the product mode.
  1. Push the power button to turn on the TriCaster Computer
  2. Once launched, you will see the home page of the TriCaster software. Click on the new icon.  From here, you will see configuration options appear. In this section, you want to give the production a name, as well as setup the output resolution and video standard of the production. Note: NTSC is the most common video standard.

  1. When you are finished select Start Session. You will be taken to another screen that will give you the option of Live Production. Select this icon.
  2. Once you have opened the Live Production Interface, everything will initially look empty as none of the monitors/inputs have been configured.
  3. Mouse over the camera 1 input. A gear will appear in the lower right hand corner.

  4. Click the gear and a configuration menu will appear.  In this menu, you can edit the settings for each camera/input that your TriCaster is capable of. Choose the correct connection type for your camera or input.
  5. Repeat step 6 as needed for the remaining camera inputs.
Note: The TriCaster 460 has 4 camera inputs and the 860 has 8.

Setting up the Video Outputs

  •  When setting up the video outputs on a TriCaster, be aware of what resolution you started your Live Production Session in as this can't be changed.
  1. Mouse over the program monitor. A gear will appear in the lower right hand corner.tr4.png
  2. Click the gear and a drop down menu will appear. This is where you edit the output of program.  What you have configured in this monitor will be the output of the TriCaster.

  1. In this Configuration Menu, you will see that there are two main connections (both are SDI), and there is HDMI, Network 1 (stream) and Network for you to choose as your output. You can also adjust audio outputs here as well.

Optional Input Settings

    1. Mouse over the preview monitor. A gear will appear in the lower right hand corner.
    2. Click the gear and then you have the ability to change brightness/contrast levels. You can also change the hue independently of the camera inputs.  These settings are purely for personal preference and do not affect inputs or outputs of any signal.
    3. When you are finished, TriCaster will automatically save these configurations for your session. You can now exit the session to finish any necessary importing or outside configurations.
