Troubleshooting Hub - NovaStar controlled display: desired content not displaying on screen

  • Help troubleshooting when desired content is not displaying on screen.

Environment

  • Product Family: Sender Box
  • Product: Nova MCTRL 600, Nova MCTRL 660, NovaStar VX4S, NovaStar brand sender box and receiver  cards
  • Components: NovaLCT-Mars
  • Control System: Market Standard or Limited Compliance using transmit common/open protocol
    • This includes but not limited to DVN-4003, Dragon Sticks, J Series, JVX, U Series, Q Series, QVN, Z Series, and ZPN.

Steps

  1. Is content legible?
    • If Yes, proceed to Step 2.
    • If No, skip ahead to Step 5.
  2. Is content washed out or pixelated?
  3. Is part of the content off the screen?
    • If Yes, proceed to Step 4.
    • If No, skip ahead to Step 7.
  4. Within the NovaStar software, navigate to the sending board page. Ensure that source configuration section is set to the display size and not the graphics output. Set them correctly if needed. Refer to NovaStar: How do I configure a NovaLCT-Mars Sender Box?  Does the issue resolve?
    • If Yes, your troubleshooting is complete.
    • If No, check that source content is outputting to 0,0. If source content is outputting to 0,0 and the issue does not resolve, contact Daktronics for further troubleshooting.
  5. Is content out of place or cut off/shifted?
    • If Yes, proceed to Step 6.
    • If No, skip ahead to Step 7.
  6. Check cabling on back of sender box. Ensure that all are in their proper ports. Does issue resolve?
    • If Yes, your troubleshooting is complete.
    • If No, reconfigure sender box and receiver cards as per site. If the issue does not resolve, contact Daktronics for further troubleshooting.
  7.  Is the display showing a solid color and/or rotating through solid colors and patterns?
    • If Yes, skip ahead to Step 9.
    • If No, proceed to Step 8.
  8. Check incoming source to ensure desired content is being played. Change content if it is not. Does issue resolve?
    • If Yes, your troubleshooting is complete.
    • If No, contact Daktronics for further troubleshooting.
  9. Is the color limited to an area of the content or does it take up the entire display?
    • For Full Display, proceed to Step 10.
    • For Limited Area, skip ahead to Step 13.
  10. Within the NovaStar software, click on Screen Control. Does dropdown in self-test say "normal"?
    • If Yes, skip ahead to Step 12.
    • If No, proceed to Step 11.
  11. Set dropdown to "normal" and click send. Does issue resolve?
    • If Yes, your troubleshooting is complete.
    • If No, proceed to Step 12.
  12. Check incoming content to ensure that there aren't test patterns being sent from another upstream device. If there are no test patterns being sent from an upstream device, contact Daktronics for further troubleshooting.
  13. Within NovaStar software, send receiver card configuration to receiver cards in the discolored area. Does issue resolve?
    • If Yes, your troubleshooting is complete.
    • If No, proceed to Step 14.
  14. Is the receiver card icon red?
    • If Yes, proceed to Step 15.
    • If No, contact Daktronics for further troubleshooting.
  15. Reseat the receiver card(s) in discolored area. Does issue resolve?
    • If Yes, your troubleshooting is complete.
    • If No, proceed to Step 16.
  16. Replace receiver card in discolored area. 
    1. Refer to the appropriate resource: 
      1. NovaStar: How do I replace a receiver card in a display?
      2. How do I replace a hub or receiver card on a L Series Display?   
      3. How do I replace a hub or receiver card on a J10 display?
    2. Does issue resolve?
    • If Yes, your troubleshooting is complete.
    • If No, contact Daktronics for further troubleshooting.
