Venus Control Suite: How do I setup a display to communicate with a locally hosted Venus?

Topic

  • How do I setup a DMP-5050/ 5060 or DMP-8060/ 8065 to communicate with a locally hosted Venus Control Suite?

Environment

  • Product: Venus Connect, Venus Framework, Venus Local Select, Venus Local Professional
  • Components: DMP-5050, DMP-8050, DMP-8065, GP4, GS6
  • Control System: Venus Local - LCL (VCS)

Steps

NOTE: Both DMP and VIP configurations are required.

DMP-5000/ 8000

  1. Log into the web interface for the DMP.
  2. Ensure that the current release of DMP firmware is installed.
    • If updating from DMP-8000 V6 to V8, you must first install DMP-8000 v7.34.0.33.
      • Prior to installing v8, the media management server will need to be set to Venus.
  3. Configure the DMP following the steps below.
    • HTML DMP web interface.
      1. Click the Config (wrench) icon.
      2. Click the Services submenu.
      3. Enter the address for the local VCS computer.
        • If using a router between the server computer and the display the server name plus the DNS suffix can be used. (This should not be confused with a Cellular modem.)
          • The computer name can be found by looking at the name portion of the address you use to log into the user portal.
            • For example if you use https://computername:44300 to log into the user portal you will only use the "computername" portion here.
          • The DNS suffix can be found by running the "ipconfig" command from command prompt on the VCS server computer.
        • If the sign is plugged in directly to the server computer use the IP address of the server; (VCS website version has to be v0.8.1043.0 or higher for this to work, see Venus Control Suite Local Install does not have the DMP & VIP showing up to be associated when going to Add Device )
      4. Select 8811 - Locally hosted from the "Port" drop down.
      5. Click the Save button.
      6. Navigate to the "Identification" tab and make note of the "ID" value under the "Device ID" heading.
    • Associate the DMP with the display setup in VCS. How do I associate a device with a display in a Venus Control Suite setup?

    VIP-5x50/ 5x60

    1. Configure the VIP following the steps below.
      • HTML VIP web interface.
        1. Click the Configuration tab (wrench icon) from the options on the left hand side.
        2. Click the Services menu from the listing that appears under configuration.
        3. Under the "Host" heading, enter the address for the local VCS computer.
            • Only one host should be listed, if "venus.daktronics.com" is already there it can be changed to the local server noted below.  If no hosts are listed choose the drop down next to "Add Client" and select Venus-Local.
          • If using a router between the server computer and the display the server name can be used (this will be the name portion of the address you use to log into the user portal).
            • For example if you use https://computername:44300 to log into the user portal you will only use the "computername" portion here.
          • If the sign is plugged in directly to the server computer use the IP address of the server, see Venus Control Suite Local Install does not have the DMP & VIP showing up to be associated when going to Add Device
        4. Under the "Port" heading set the port number to 8811.
        5. Click the Save button in the upper left under the "Configuration" heading.
    2. Associate the VIP-5060 with the display setup in VCS.  How do I associate a device with a display in a Venus Control Suite setup?
