DMP-7000: How to Configure VDCP and Sony/Odetics Protocols?

Topic

  • How to Configure VDCP and Sony/Odetics Protocols with DMP-7000?

Environment

  • Product: DMP-7000
  • Components:
  • Control System: Venus 7000

Steps

Configure a VDCP Input Port

  1. Navigate to Start Menu > All Programs > Venus 7000 > V7 Shell to open the Venus 7000 Shell application.
  2. Click Configure to open the System Configuration window.
  3. Click the RTD Inputs tab.
  4. Select an unassigned Input Port and click Edit Input to open the Edit RTD Input window.
It is recommended to select a port higher than Input 16.  Input 18 or 19 typically used.
  1. In the Name text box, enter a name for the port. (Suggestions: VDCP or Switcher)
  2. In the Source Type drop-down menu, select a source type.
COM PORT, TCP/IP SOCKET OR UDP/IP SOCKET may be used and should match the settings of the switcher.
  1. In the Source drop-down menu, select an available serial port.
  2. In the Protocol drop-down menu, select VDCP.
  3. Note: If COM PORT is chosen as the Source Type, after VDCP is selected, notice that the Baud Rate, Parity, Data Bits, and Size are set to 38400, Odd, 8, and 1024, respectively.

Create a Library for the Sign

Create a library for this sign for containing all files that the switcher will need to list and play.
  1. From within the Venus 7000 Shell, click the Files button to open the V7File window.
  2. Locate the appropriate sign from the folder hierarchy on the left. Right click on the sign and select Create Library from the menu. The Create Library window appears.

  3. Enter the name of the library (e.g. Switcher) into the text box and click OK.
  4. A V7SHELL dialog box appears to confirm that you wish to create a new library. Click OK to continue, or Cancel to return to the Create Library window. Notice that the new library is now listed in the hierarchy under the sign folder.

  5. Enter the Switcher's library's information:
    1. Address: - The Address is the identifier of the switch box. The address is almost always "0" if no other devices are on the same connection. Most systems will have only a single switch, as they do not support multi-drop with the protocol (even though it is technically specified that way).
    2. Port: -The Port designates the channel within the switch box. Most systems only use one port. Use "1" for the 1st sign you wish to control, use "2" for the 2nd sign, etc.
    3. Note: Ports 1 to 127 are output ports, ports -1 to -127 are input (recording) ports.
    4.
    5. Sign - The Sign designates the V7000 sign that will be controlled by this switch. Select the desired sign using the drop down list.
    6. Note: The designated sign could play content directly to the display. However quite often the designated sign is a virtual sign that triggers other commands, but does not actually play real content.
    7. Server: - The server will be either C:\V7000 or D:\V7000.
    8. Library: - Select the desired library name using the drop down list. ("Switcher" in this example.)
    9. Note: The VDCP protocol treats the system as one flat drive. It does not support subfolders, so content can only play from one library.
  6. Click OK to save changes and return to the Output Port List window. Notice that the new port is now on the list.

  7. Click OK on each of the dialog boxes.
  8. When prompted to do so, restart the Sign Service.

Other Protocols - Sony / Odetics Protocols

The Sony/Odetics protocol configuration is very similar to the VDCP configuration. The only difference is
that it does not provide for multiple channels on one device so the Port value is not actually used.

Changes in the Edit RTD Input window:
  • Name: The name entered in the text box should reflect the protocol being used.Protocol: The protocol selected from the drop down list is Sony/Odetics.
Changes in the Edit RTD Output window:
  • Port: The port number must remain '0'.
