Galaxy: Display dim, internal temp is above 55°C (131°F), Thermal dimming

Potential Symptoms

  • Galaxy display is dimming during hottest times of the day,
    • M2 Controller internal temperature is above 55°C (131°F).
    • M3 controller internal temperature is above 60°C (140°F).
  • Display is dimming down then brightening back up, then down again, but photocell is functioning properly.
  • Display is completely blank, but can still connect to it and play content.
  • M2Config shows internal temperatures at above 55°C / 60°C

Cause

  • Display internal temperature has reached 65°C (148°F) and as a normal protective operation of the controller it has dimmed to its lowest visible value until internal temperature reaches low trigger point of 55°C (131°F).

Resolution

  • Resolve any ventilation issues.
    • Ensure all fans are functioning and clean/clear of debris.
    • Ensure all filters if present are clean and in good condition.
    • Remove anything that may be blocking or inhibiting proper ventilation (i.e.. Plexiglas).
