How Do I Set Up the TimeWarp Device to Capture and Play Back Replays?

Topic

  • What is the best practice for setting up the TimeWarp console to capture and play back replays?

Environment

  • Product Family: Software and Controllers
  • Product: TimeWarp Replay Console
  • Components: TriCaster 460, 860, 8000, or TC-1
  • Control System: Standard Video System

Steps

Setup TimeWarp for Instant Replays

  1. To begin, make sure you have entered into a live production for your session on the TriCaster.
  2. On the TimeWarp console, select "DDR 2." This will now record the replays into the DDR 2 bin for playback.
Note: Use DDR 1 to store and play back animations and sponsor ads.

  3. Ensure that the DDR 2 bin is set to "Single" and "Autoplay" is selected.

  4. On the Launch pad, press the "Replay Out Config" button. This will ensure the proper recording channel is set up to record replays.

  5. At this point your system is configured to run replay and you can start recording by pressing the "REC" button on the TimeWarp console.

Operate Replay

Note: The method used for operating the TimeWarp will vary slightly based on which sport you are working with.  The same concepts apply.

  1. First select the camera you want to record for that play based on the ball's position on the field/court.
  2. Select the camera before the play starts by selecting the proper
camera on the Launch pad under the "Replay In" label.

  3. Right before the play occurs, press the "IN" button on the TimeWarp console.
  4. Allow the play to finish, and leave a few extra seconds of "pad" before pressing the "OUT" button.  This will create a clip in your DDR 2 bin of the play that just occurred from the camera angle you selected.

  5. The clip will be automatically highlighted when it is added to the DDR 2 bin. To play the replay back, press the "RE IN" button on the Launchpad.  This will play the replay wipe and roll your replay.
  6. When the replay is nearly over, press the "RE OUT" to wipe back to your live camera.

NOTE: During fast paced events, (ex: basketball, volleyball) it is possible to continue to mark the "IN" point because you do not know when a play will happen that you will want to replay.

NOTE: For example, during a basketball game, there is not always a defined start and stop time during the play.  Therefore, it may be useful to the operator to continue to push the "IN" button until a play takes place that you want to replay.  Once the play happens (ex: slam dunk) hit the "OUT" button to only mark that particular play.  This will make it much easier for the operator.
