How do I Establish Communication with Data Distributors 404X and Above?

Potential Symptoms

  • Establish communication with Data Distributors 404X and above

Environment

  • DD-404X
  • DD-4041
  • DD-4042

Resolution

  1. Set up File Sender for the COM port that you are connected to.
    • If using the Venus® 7000, the connection will be from the Serial Expander card on the rear of the computer to the Data Distributor, if rack mounted, or to the Signal Converter, if display mounted. To setup the Moxa Cable, reference How to verify that a MOXA USB to serial adapter is installed & working properly, DD1542967.
    • If using a laptop, a connection will need to be made from a Moxa USB to Serial adapter or from an on-board serial port to the DD.
      • If DD is display-mounted, connect to the Serial Port directly on the DD or the Signal Converter.
      • If the DD is rack-mounted, connect directly to the DD's Serial Port.
  2. Start communication with the DD using the following steps:
    • To set up File Sender, use these steps to open COM port before continuing.
      1. After opening File Sender, click the "Port Monitor" button in the top right corner.
      2. In the drop down box, select the appropriate COM port connected to the DD. The COM port will be yellow if a DD is detected.
      3. Click the "Open Port" button and verify in the bottom status pane "Connection Acquired: X DD's Found" appears. "X" should be at least one.
      4. Click the tab for the task you are trying to perform.
