Old Dominion University Partners with Daktronics to Upgrade The TED
33 LED video displays, curved centerhung displays to be installed
BROOKINGS, S.D. – July 28, 2015 – Old Dominion University has called on Daktronics (NASDAQ-DAKT) of Brookings, South Dakota, for the design, manufacture and installation of new LED video displays at Ted Constant Convocation Center (The TED) on campus in Norfolk, Virginia. Installation includes convex curved main centerhung video displays and is slated for late this summer ahead of the fall sporting seasons of 2015.
"We are very excited about the opportunity to enhance the TED experience," said Dave Harnage, Chief Operating Officer for Old Dominion University. "The new high-resolution, centerhung video scoreboard and affiliated digital signage throughout the arena will provide visual displays that will be unique in our market. As Old Dominion University and our athletic programs continue to grow, it is important that we continue to attract and entertain our guests in the Ted Constant Convocation Center and we look forward to providing new and exciting fan experiences."
Improving the game-day experience for men's and women's basketball and wrestling events on campus, the new displays inside The TED include four main video displays, four centerhung corner displays, a lower centerhung ring display, two end wall ribbon displays, two side wall ribbon displays, four vomitory display and 16 scorer's tables. All of the centerhung displays will feature a high resolution 6 millimeter line spacing. The main displays will feature variable content zoning allowing them to show one large image or to be sectioned into separate windows to show any combination of live video, instant replays, up-to-the-minute statistics, animations and sponsor messages.
"We're thankful for the opportunity to work with Old Dominion University on this upcoming installation that will build on a great fan experience at The TED," said Charley Bocklet, Daktronics regional manager. We're excited to see the completed project having a terrific impact at events this upcoming season."
The four ribbon displays will be mounted along the seating fascia and will measure a combined 2.5 feet high by 492 feet wide.
