Ector County ISD Installs Largest Ever Daktronics Display at a High School

Hits trifecta of large scoreboards in professional, college and high school football

BROOKINGS, S.D. – August 18, 2014 – Ector County ISD (ECISD) has partnered with Daktronics (NASDAQ-DAKT) of Brookings, South Dakota, for the largest display that the company has ever installed at the high school level at Ratliff Stadium in Odessa, Texas. The stadium is home to Odessa High School as well as Permian High School of "Friday Night Lights" fame.

This project comes on the heels of Daktronics installing largest display in college football at Texas A&M University's Kyle Field and the largest display in professional football at the Jacksonville Jaguars – a trifecta of large displays for 2014.

ECISD's new display is one of the largest in all of high school sports and measures approximately 27 feet high by 50 feet wide and features a 15HD pixel layout. It measures just more than 1,330 square feet, which makes it larger than displays at three professional stadiums including the New Orleans Saints, San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders.

Daktronics originally partnered with the district in 2005 when they installed their previous video display which was less than 400 square feet. As a testament to Daktronics' product quality, reliability and longevity, this display is still being used in the stadium.

The new and existing displays combine to provide the stadium with more than 1,700 total square feet of display space, and using both at the same time makes ECISD the only high school in the nation using two displays with full video capability.

The Daktronics Sports Marketing team helped ECISD secure 1.2 million dollars of equipment and more than 2 million dollars in ad contracts over ten years. With this help, the district was able to pay off the existing equipment, which will stay where it is, while also paying off the new equipment two years quicker. Any revenue generated above obligations is returned to the district.
