TREASURE ISLAND

Minnesota’s Only Themed Casino Resort, Treasure Island, Installs Fourth Daktronics Display

Patrons of Treasure Island Resort & Casino, Red Wing, Minn., enjoy a distinctive Caribbean experience at the Midwest’s tropical gateway. The casino and resort is now welcoming gamers with a striking marquee composed of the casino’s distinctive toucan/palm trees logo and an LED electronic message center (EMC) manufactured by Daktronics. Rochester Signs and Service, Rochester, Minn., built and installed the marquee. The EMC’s text and graphic imagery capabilities and outstanding visibility generate excitement as gamers enter Treasure Island. Advertising Manager Bob Ruhland explains that they often program the display to welcome specific groups attending conventions or retreats at Treasure Island.

Ruhland went on to say, “we are tickled with the display’s capabilities and the way the movement and brightness of the display attract attention.”

The approximately 6 feet by 15 feet electronic message center relays all the specifics of the guest experience this themed casino provides its patrons. It shows information about the available gaming technologies, the 250-room hotel and 95-site RV-park, casino specials, specific events, such as Senior Day, the menus of its four restaurants and pertinent details about the meetings, trade shows and retreats that the facility hosts.

In addition to its ability to provide information and generate excitement, the Galaxy® display system also features easy-to-use controller software. The operator, Treasure Island’s graphic designer, can create, schedule and display time-sensitive details from multiple personal computers in the facility via Local Area Network (LAN). Information such as this includes welcoming a target audience attending a current meeting or posting the menus for certain meals of the day. The operator has created exciting content featuring falling bills and spinning roulette wheels.

Reseller Gary Simonson, owner and president of Rochester Signs & Service, Rochester, Minn., said he was “impressed by the simplicity of the installation of the Daktronics unit and it fired right up the first time.” Simonson also appreciated the friendliness and reliability of Daktronics service personnel. “The most important thing is that the customer is happy with the marquee and that reflects well on Rochester Signs,” Simonson stated.

Before installing the new message center marquee, Treasure Island has been directing potential gamers to their facility in Redwing from separate locations in the Twin Cities with two Daktronics 89 mm red Galaxy displays installed on billboards (right). These monochrome displays feature 64 shades of red, capable of rendering photographs with all the necessary depth and shading needed for a high level of clarity. Treasure Island uses this capability to show photographs of entertainers currently appearing at their facility.

Besides these two billboard applications, Treasure Island’s convenience store uses a Daktronics gas price digit display (above left) featuring immediate price changing with a wireless electronic controller and easy-to-read LED digits.
