Stop N Go
North Dakota Gas Stations Upgrade Digits
The Challenge
Stop N Go is a locally-owned gas station chain with 27 locations in the state of North Dakota. In part due to safety issues associated with the maintenance of large manual price numerals, 10 Stop N Go stations in Fargo decided to switch to digital displays.
North Dakota's Workman's Compensation established a program offering grant money for businesses that addressed potential safety problems, including employees changing large manual price numerals.
Manually changing fuel prices poses a safety issue because of the height of the signs. Since employees have to climb tall ladders to change the digits each time the gas price changes, accidents happen. In addition to the safety concerns raised by the changing process, the plastic numerals are easily damaged and expensive to replace.
Stop N Go jumped at the chance to make their locations safer for employees and to improve their store image with a sleek digit design. The Workman's Compensation Department developed a grant program to pay for part of the total cost to improve employee safety.
The Daktronics Solution
Stop N Go performed a price comparison between Daktronics and competitors. According to Sheila Carney, chief financial officer at Stop N Go, Daktronics offered the best price in conjunction with a solid industry reputation.
All 10 Stop N Go convenience stores opted for Daktronics petroleum price digits. Drivers can see the 24-inch LED digits from much further away than the standard plastic numerals, which helps draw in more customers to the Stop N Go locations.
Customers are pleased with the new price digits, but the feedback from employees has been even more remarkable, according to Carney. "We have received thank you cards from our employees because they are so happy," she said. The ease of use of the new LED digits and the remote price changer has been overwhlemingly positive for the corporate office.
The Sign Company
Bernie Dardis, CEO of Indigo Signworks, oversaw the installation process at all 10 Stop N Go locations. His previous work with Daktronics led him to recommend the company to Stop N Go. Dardis was pleased with the result of the installations and remarked that the switch to petroleum price displays was positive for all parties.
What They're Saying
"Working with Daktronics has been a pleasant experience. Daktronics is a great manufacturer," Dardis said.
"The experience has been wonderful. We have 27 locations total, and we hope to install more Daktronics displays at our other locations in the future," Carney said. "Digital fuel lights are really the wave of the future."
