Seattle Guiding Motorists to Open Spaces With Galaxy® Displays
When the City of Seattle found out that they were going to lose about 800 downtown parking spaces with the relocation of the Alaskan Way Viaduct, they took action to ensure that motorists could easily find spaces in the downtown area.
The resulting project, known as e-Park, efficiently informs and guides visitors to available parking spaces in downtown-area facilities.
This Center City Parking Project is aimed at reducing traffic congestion, emissions and driver frustration.
To accompany the e-Park system, Seattle DOT rolled out an interactive online parking map which uses real-time data to display the number of open spaces in all six e-Park facilities in the downtown area.
Before leaving home, Seattle residents and visitors can find a parking garage and understand what they'll encounter on their trip to downtown Seatlle. By integrating their new street-level Galaxy® LED displays with their parking data system, e-Park shows the exact amount of open spaces in each facility. This allows the city to provide options for the driving motorist so he or she can make an informed decision.
By bringing cars to their parking spaces more efficiently, fewer cars circle the block, fewer visitors become frustrated, fewer new parking facilities need to be constructed and fewer emissions hang in the air.
