Owner Takes Full Advantage of Digital Flexibility

The Challenge

Robert Moore, owner of Riley Outdoor, is an independent operator of more than 135 faces in eastern North Carolina. When considering digital billboard manufacturers, Moore wanted a company that could provide a reliable digital billboard with the support services to save him time and back his investment.

The Daktronics Solution

After reviewing major LED billboard vendors, Riley Outdoor purchased a 16 mm Valo™ OT digital billboard manufactured by Daktronics. The company installed the board at a high-traffi c location in Greenville, North Carolina, where approximately 60,000 motorists pass by each day.

Since the installation, Moore said he has received a great response from his clients. “Most of the feedback from the advertisers is absolutely positive,” said Moore. “They love the ability to change messages at a moment’s notice and communicate with 60,000 people who are going by every day.”

The Valo OT digital billboard Riley Outdoor uses also contributed to the positive response. With vivid colors, remarkable image detail, and a design that optimizes picture contrast for high readability in direct sunlight, the product delivers fi rst-rate content that impresses advertisers and motorists alike. “I would rate the image quality as great,” Moore said. “This is as good or better than any digital billboard unit I’ve seen anywhere.”

Moore, who updates the majority of creative content himself, said Daktronics’ webbased VisiconnSM display management system has been easy to use, especially since he can update it from anywhere he can fi nd an Internet connection. In fact, Moore frequently updates creative content using his iPhone. “I just got an iPhone about a month ago, and I’ve used it to upload content to the display,” Moore said. “It’s super user-friendly as far as I’m concerned. I can view the web camera from my iPhone as well, and so I’ve got access to it all the time.”

And unlike other billboard management tools, the Visiconn system allows advertisers to log in and change creative whenever they choose. Moore said this saves him time and gives his advertisers more fl exibility. For instance, a local news station that advertises on his board updates content anywhere from eight to ten times per day.

Moore said that this level of fl exibility saves him time and has made his operations easier. “My main concern with digital was if I would have time to maintain the art side of it, making changes, and I’ve found that I do have the time. As soon as I picked up on the software, which was pretty immediate, there’s really nothing that I don’t feel comfortable doing. It wasn’t nearly as time consuming as I’d anticipated it to be.”
