Display Provides Timely Tribute

The Challenge

The Guilderland Fire Department in Guilderland, New York, had a tired, old, changeable copy sign, and they knew it was time to upgrade. "The old sign was plain white and dirty," said Guilderland Fire Department's Fire Commissioner, Curtis Cox. "We were really interested in the new technology available and started looking at digital displays in the area. Other sign owners recommended Daktronics for its service and support, and I really liked the classy look of Daktronics Galaxy® display."

The Daktronics Solution

Ray Sign Company in Schenectady, New York, installed the display just in time for the 10th Anniversary of 9/11, and the Guilderland Fire Department used their display to show a tribute to those who were lost on that day ten years ago. "I designed content with the image of the towers, and it turned out really nice," said Curtis.

For their everyday content, the fire department works closely with the town to comply with the current sign codes. "It is really important to educate the public," said Curtis. "We use the display to promote fire prevention messages and recognize our firefighter of the year. The only time we ever used flashing was during an Amber Alert™. It really catches your eye!"

Overall, the Guilderland Fire Department couldn't be happier with the display. "Our Daktronics display outshines all other LED displays," said Curtis. "We have already recommended Daktronics displays to another nearby fire department that is looking to rebuild. We also really like the look of the entire sign in general. Ray Sign Company is a very prominent company, and we had no question that they would do a great job."
