Display Assists Start-Up Success

The Challenge

Wayne Weustfeld started A+ Storage in February 2011. Located just off a busy thoroughfare, he decided to invest in a digital display to help catch the attention of passersby. The flexibility that the sign provides proved to be a perfect fit for his business.

"We have a multi-functional building and many of our units are rented by vendors for crafts, artwork, and antiques," said Wayne. "It's similar to a flea market. We use our sign to help promote new vendors and to feature products.  Some of their items sold because of the pictures that ran on the display."

The Daktronics Solution

Wayne's business, although new, has been successful. "We managed to break even in just seven weeks," said Wayne. "And the display accounts for about 30 percent of that." The sign has also helped him think critically about how to reach his customer base. "We are located in the middle of a stretch of road, not by a light," said Wayne. "This means that people driving by will only see my message for six to eight seconds. It helps me think about what I am trying to say, and helps me decide what messages I am going to cycle through."

The flexibility that Wayne has with his sign gives him more opportunities than just promoting his vendors.
"My favorite feature of the display is that I can use it for more than my own business," said Wayne. "I can also write personal messages, such as happy birthday to a friend or help support events within the community."

The display is also unique in that it has the prominent position over his static sign. "Most people put the display underneath their business name," said Wayne. "I want the focus to be on my message, so I placed the display on top instead."
