Citi Performing Arts Center
Video Displays Add to Theatre Experience
The Challenge
Boston's Citi Performing Arts Center consists of two neighboring theatres in Boston's Theatre District:
- The Wang Theatre
- The Shubert Theatre
Theatre officials wanted to advertise more dynamically on-premise and knew this would be possible with digital signage, but needed a provider.
"It's one of those little things you can do with this technology that make huge impressions on guests, clients, and sponsors – and it doesn’t cost us a thing."
Julie Banks, Marketing Communications Manager for the City Performing Arts Center on the interactive potential of LED signage
The Daktronics Solution
Daktronics installed two LED video displays outside the Wang Theatre and two other LED marquee displays above the entrance façade of the Shubert Theatre.
Both video boards advertise upcoming shows with prerecorded video content along with times and dates of each performance. Daktronics' LED technology allows both Citi Center theatres promote each and every scheduled performance months in advance.
Interactive Potential
During a particular show, a photographer snapped photos of the audience as they enjoyed the performance. Following the show as guests exited the theater, those photos were fed onto the display, surprising many as they viewed themselves on the LED marquees.
Citi Center is one of many performing arts theaters upgrading the outside of their buildings and ticket booths to LED technology. Today, LED signage acts as a "broadcaster" to the public and directs their attention to what's playing inside the theatre.
