Daktronics Rigging Saves Belcher Center Time and Money

The Challenge

Time is money. Technical directors of roadhouses are keenly aware of that. Developing efficient load-ins and load-outs are crucial for both the touring companies and the host facility. When the S.E. Belcher Jr. Chapel and Performance Center of LeTourneau University in Longview, TX, opened its beautiful 2,000-seat facility in 2007, they understood the challenge.

The Solution

Designed to host road shows from small musical groups to full on stage productions, the Belcher Center's rigging equipment features 27 Vortek Classic hoists with Pro Series controls. Using those functional, automated hoists have made load-ins and load-outs efficient and less expensive.

Cody Bowen, LeTourneau’s technical director, has worked with the touring groups for about 10 years.

"I’m a big fan of the versatile Vortek hoists allowing us to fly equipment in and out efficiently. Our larger crews work fewer hours before and after each show. Recently a group told us it would take 4 plus hours to load-out. We did it in an hour and a half, their fastest time ever." Bowen adds, "Sometimes it’s the money we save that makes the difference in breaking even with a show."
