Viejas Arena features new Daktronics Centerhung LED Video Display

BROOKINGS, S.D. – 10/08/09 – Viejas Arena at San Diego State University installed a new integrated light emitting diode (LED) video and scoring system, designed and manufactured by Daktronics Inc. of Brookings, S.D. (NASDAQ-DAKT), home of Aztec basketball.

“The new centerhung will generate an electric atmosphere in our arena for our fans,” said John Kolek, Executive Director of Viejas Arena. “Working with Daktronics for many years, we know that they can meet our deadlines and provide excellent service throughout installation. This updated technology will be a win-win for fans and sponsors.”

The state-of-the-art system features the latest Daktronics LED video technology with the capabilities to present live and recorded video images, colorful animation and vivid graphics with incredible brightness and wide angle visibility. The overall centerhung display is approximately 26 feet high by 15 feet wide with four LED video displays and a lower ring of LED technology.

Daktronics LED technology offers a long lifetime with minimal maintenance and low power consumption, providing value and excitement for years to come. The LED ring will present images and information with wide-angle visibility, incredible brightness and offer complete message flexibility. When not showing exciting graphics, animation, stats, or out-of-town game scores, advertisers are highlighted with a wide variety of visuals and messages. The scoring, timing, video, and messaging components will be integrated through Daktronics proven control system.

Opened in 1997, Viejas Arena is the home of San Diego State Basketball and provides a venue for university functions, cultural events, concerts and other special-event programming. It features a unique open-air concourse design that allows fans to enjoy the excellent San Diego climate and adds a new experience to attending arena-type events. The arena is built on the site of the old Aztec Bowl stadium which hosted San Diego State football games as well as other athletic, entertainment and cultural events from the time of its construction in 1936 until 1967.
