Daktronics Digital Technology Incorporated into The Village at Allen Marquee Display
BROOKINGS, S.D. – Oct. 9, 2009 — The Village at Allen is home to an exciting collection of restaurants, national retail stores, specialty shops and services with lush parks and unique entertainment. It's also home to Daktronics' (NASDAQ-DAKT) industry-leading LED technology.
Recently, Daktronics Inc. of Brookings, S.D., provided The Village at Allen, a new retail and entertainment development in Allen, Texas, with a two-sided LED video marquee display. Measuring approximately 16-feet-high by 30-feet-wide, the LED display regularly promotes development along the southeast corner of Stacy Road and US 75 with wider viewing angles, sharper contrast and superior brightness.
MGHerring Group Director of Design, Michael Stautz says, "We chose to purchase the on-premise LED display because it complimented our center."
"We wanted to give an identity to the development and felt that an LED display would help in achieving that goal," said Stautz. "Being able to advertise our businesses and promote the action at the Allen Event Center was central to our decision to purchase the display."
The Village at Allen is one component of The MGHerring Group's 3-million-square-foot, regional, mixed-use lifestyle center located in both the City of Allen and the Town of Fairview. The development spans 400 acres and includes 2 million square feet of retail and 1 million square feet of residential, hotel space and future office and is currently the largest mixed-use development in Texas.
Currently, on-premise advertising for the various businesses in The Village at Allen dominates the display content. However, The Village at Allen plans to feature highlights and other advertising for the Allen Americans, the new CHL-franchised hockey team that will call the Allen Event Center home, as well as trade shows, festivals, cultural and community events on the display.
Sensory Interactive, a firm specializing in developing architectural concepts of unique integrated media environments, designed the entire sign structure for The Village at Allen. Before choosing a vendor, Sensory set up a "shootout" for The Village at Allen decision makers where competing LED display manufacturers showcased their technology.
"We funded a shopping center development in the past where the manager included an LED display from a competitor of Daktronics," said Stautz. "It didn’t turn out well. This time we wanted to hire someone who knew what they were doing. Through Sensory Interactive's help, we chose Daktronics."
For developments like The Village at Allen, signage is often the first component that consumers see. Today, retail needs a creative edge. Daktronics dynamic digital signage advertising entices people to shop and helps keep consumers informed.
