DakStats® Chosen as the Exclusive Data, Statistics Provider for 32nd Annual 2011 NAIA® Volleyball National Championships
BROOKINGS, S.D. – Jan. 5, 2012 – Daktronics Inc. (Nasdaq-DAKT) of Brookings, S.D., was chosen to be the official statistics provider for this year’s NAIA® Volleyball National Championships using the company’s DakStats® system.
“We are really privileged to have Daktronics as our scoreboard and data provider for this year’s tournament” said Corey Westra, Tournament Director for the NAIA® National Volleyball Championships.
The DakStats® system was used to input scores and statistics for the opening rounds of the national tournament which was held at individual campus sites. The final site was the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa, with competition comprised of pool play, semi-final and championship matches. The DakStats® system demonstrated its capabilities by entering and distributing data on a large scale from a total of 80 matches, comprised of 24 different teams hoping to take home a national championship for their schools.
The matches at the Tyson Events Center spanned a period of five days from Nov. 29 to Dec. 3. The arena floor was divided into three different courts. A DakStats® operator and Daktronics scoreboard at each court kept scores, data and statistics for all the pool play matches during the first three days. The floor was narrowed to two courts for the semi-final and championship matches.
The DakStats® software provided operators with an easy-to-use interface to help keep track of every dig, spike and point scored during each game. All of the data was entered in real-time and uploaded to a central system allowing for it to be distributed in post-game reports and box scores, as well as streamed to the tournament website.
Post-game reports including box scores were greatly appreciated by the coaches from all the teams. Reports were printed and distributed immediately to the huddles during matches to help plan for the next game.
"During our coaches meeting we told them it would take 30 minutes to get box scores to them after each game, it actually only ended up taking us three minutes," said Westra. “Reports are timely and that is key to having a successful tournament.”
The press row had access to post-game reports and live data to help keep track of all the action and write up recaps for the different matches throughout the tournament.
“It adds to the in-match experience for our media by getting them information to help make better stories,” said Westra.
The fans and media were also able to visit the tournament website which was using the DakStats® Web-Sync® program allowing for instant updates and data streaming from each game into a user-friendly format. Needing only an internet connection, fans and boosters that weren't able to make the trip to see the game in person were able to stay in touch with how their teams were doing.
