Macau, China's Newest Resort Uses Daktronics Color-Matched LED Puck Housing

BROOKINGS, S.D. – Dec. 18, 2009 – Camouflaged LED displays? With Daktronics Inc. (NASDAQ-DAKT), it's not even a question. City of Dreams, Macau, China's newest casino resort, recently chose Daktronics to populate its outdoor logo with ProPixel® freeform video elements. To make sure the City of Dreams logo could be seen both day and night, Daktronics applied its patented Echo™ color matching technique, printing the colors of the resort's logo into the outer housing of 1,660 ProPixel freeform puck elements.

By day, the multi-colored puck elements give the 7-meter-wide logo on the side of one of the four City of Dreams towers the appearance of a static, non-electronic display. By night, the freeform puck elements bring the logo to life through brilliant LED color changes and washes. Echo color matching is designed for nighttime viewing only LED display applications.

"Daktronics has developed a display camouflaging solution that can match the background color of virtually any color in the spectrum, something no other display manufacturer can or has done. The fact that we can now match multiple colors together directly on the ProPixel puck housing, rather than just one solid color, is very impressive to customers."

Through Echo™ color matching, Daktronics is able to print any type of Adobe® RGB color space color directly onto LED element housing, allowing extreme versatility for uniquely patterned projects and logos like the City of Dreams display. Daktronics applies UV coating to the outside of the element housing, providing the elements high durability from the sun and helps protect from the harsh outdoor environment, such as inclement weather, small impacts, and scratches.

Similar in shape as a hockey puck, Daktronics' freeform puck elements consist of an individual pixel element and are ideal for projects with curved shapes in multiple dimensions. Daktronics' pioneering freeform element technology contains automatic dimming sensors for optimal and appropriate viewing at night, making sure the City of Dreams display doesn't shine too brightly in the Macau sky.
