New Daktronics Video Display and Timing System for Brown University Aquatics

BROOKINGS, S.D. – Dec. 20, 2011 –Daktronics Inc. (Nasdaq-DAKT) of Brookings, S.D. has been chosen by Brown University in Providence, R.I., to design, manufacture and install a new, integrated LED video display and timing system at the new Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center.

The new video display will feature six millimeter line spacing, one the tightest pixel spacings of any natatorium display in the country. It will measure nearly 11 feet high by more than 24 feet wide. It will incorporate excellent clarity and contrast of images, capable of showing live and recorded video, graphics, scoring and timing information, animations, up-to-the-minute statistics and sponsor advertisements.

“This new facility will give Brown’s varsity swimming, diving and water polo teams one of the league’s best venues for competition and training,” Brown University Director of Athletics Michael Goldberger said. “The new Daktronics video display and timing system will only add to the center’s magnificence, giving our athletes an outstanding facility and making the athletic complex an important part of campus life for the entire Brown community.”

Daktronics will ensure precise and accurate timing of events with a combination of aquatics timing equipment, including the tried and tested OmniSport® 2000 timer, OmniSport® Pro Software, an HS-200 start system, Relay Take Off Platforms (RTOPs), and Daktronics patented touchpads.

Brown athletes will fly into the water off of Daktronics RTOPs. The platforms are not dependent on the weight of the athlete, the style of start or variation with blocks. Instead, they detect the split second a swimmer loses contact with the platform during a relay exchange.

The OmniSport® timer will provide 1/1000th of a second accuracy and has advanced features needed at high level competitions. The console is versatile, easy to use and affordable. The OmniSport® Pro software is a Windows® based, easy to control program that operates on a PC or laptop.

Daktronics touchpads are constructed of stainless steel, providing a reliable surface that will not warp or leak. They are highly sensitive across the entire nonslip surface and fill with water to equalize internal and external pressure.

“Working with Brown University and the contractor for the project, South Shore Gunite, has been a great experience,” Sales Representative Ross Yanco said. “University officials wanted to provide some of the best equipment out there for their athletes and others using the new aquatics facility, and we couldn’t be happier to be working with them on this project. It will be a completely integrated system that will provide a high level of fan entertainment and an exciting overall experience for its swimming and diving programs.”
