Augustana Chooses Daktronics System for New Kirkeby-Over Stadium
BROOKINGS, S.D. – Oct. 13, 2009 – Daktronics, Inc. (Nasdaq – DAKT) of Brookings, S.D., announced that it has designed, manufactured and installed a new video, scoring and sound system on the campus of Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D.
This season athletes and fans at Kirkeby-Over Stadium have experienced football action on the Augustana campus for the first time in over 50 years. Presiding over such a historic schedule is a Daktronics light emitting diode (LED) video display measuring nearly 14 feet high and 24 feet wide. This display rests in the center of a completely integrated video, scoring and sound system that will provide replays, statistical information and advertising content to the crowds in Sioux Falls throughout the fall.
“The system does things we didn’t think were possible, but they are,” said Bryan Miller, Athletic Development and Promotions Assistant at Augustana. “Trish Schuver and Keyframe did a great job working with us in understanding what the new displays can do. There’s a lot more that I’d love to try with the system, and I don’t think it will ever end. It’s fun to have that problem.”
Daktronics is also assisting Augustana athletics by providing game day support for home football games. The company’s Keyframe division put together a team of eight to run the new equipment, including three camera operators. The team creates and organizes content prior to Saturday games and directs and produces the entire game-day presentation for fans and sponsors at Viking home games.
On either side of the Vikings’ new video display rests two Daktronics custom LED scoreboards. Daktronics has over 40 years of experience in building quality scoring equipment for athletic facilities in South Dakota and worldwide, and these new displays are no exception.
A Sportsound® 1500HD sound system, a newly-engineered audio solution from Daktronics, projects game announcements and interactive information from atop Augustana’s new display system behind the south end zone at Kirkeby-Over Stadium.
“The sound system is amazing,” said Miller. “It’s worked out great so far, and it’s been a wonderful tool for our games.”

Because of the generous contributions of Bob and Kari Hall and others, the Augustana Vikings will no longer play their home football contests across town, but will now call Kirkeby-Over Stadium home. The Vikings compete in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference in NCAA Division II athletics.
