Alerus Center Installs Daktronics Digital Billboards

Technology allows for greater creativity, easy content updates and day part scheduling

BROOKINGS, S.D. – Sept. 17, 2009 – Daktronics, Inc. (Nasdaq – DAKT) of Brookings, S.D., announced today that the Alerus Center in Grand Forks, N.D., has installed double-sided digital billboards along two major Red River Valley roadways.

One of the Center’s new Daktronics billboards displays advertising and event information to commuters on Interstate 29 in western Grand Forks, and the other is located nearby on 42nd Street. By installing digital billboards, the Alerus Center has the ability to broaden its reach and increase visibility and affinity for their corporate partners and facility users.

"I have been running sports and entertainment venues for 19 years and have always had a great working relationship with Daktronics, so this latest project has been seamless,” said Steve Hyman, Executive Director of the Alerus Center. “We have removed very old marquees and replaced them with state-of-the-art digital billboards that will generate a six figure net income to the Alerus Center. With an interstate double face and a front door double face display, our current and future advertisers and our event schedule have the greatest exposure they have ever had.”

“Daktronics is excited about the opportunity to continue our partnership with the Alerus Center,” said Matt Warnke, Daktronics Sales. “This new marquee technology provides the facility with a dynamic way to promote their events as well as provide their sponsors greater flexibility in how they advertise their business.”

Daktronics has installed over 1,200 digital billboards around the world, making it the leading manufacturer of the displays. Since the introduction of its Valo® display technology a few years ago, Daktronics digital billboards have helped facilities expand their revenue by providing around-the-clock, year-round advertising opportunities and given advertisers the flexibility to easily create and display updated messages and images that attract the attention of passers-by.

Digital outdoor signs, like the billboards at the Alerus Center, are transforming public settings with exceptional color accuracy, image depth, viewing angles and brightness. The new displays will contribute to the Alerus Center’s media integration and signage base which enables advertisers a unique opportunity to reach a vast audience, especially along high traffic areas such as I-29.

About the Alerus Center

The Alerus Center, Grand Forks' premiere entertainment and convention facility, is the culmination of many years of dedicated work by the leaders and visionaries in the area. It has become the foremost meeting and conference space in the Dakotas, Minnesota and Manitoba, and it is the home of the University of North Dakota’s Division I football team. Britney Spears’ concert tour recently made a stop at the 22,000 seat arena in Grand Forks – the smallest market on her entire tour.

The Alerus Center has become everything it was envisioned to be - an exciting place for residents to enjoy a variety of entertainment activities and a superior convention facility that generates sales tax dollars for the community. It is because of the vision and hard work of many, many people over the years that resulted in its completion.
